These are questions that homeowners must deal with living in central
Florida (particularly Spring Hill, New Port Richey and Tampa Bay). The
2009 Florida Statutes 627.706 provides some information to the above
questions. It is important to understand a few important terms as
defined by the Florida Statutes:
Sinkhole - refers to the landform that is created by the downward
shifting of the surface of the ground including soil, sediment and or
rock (subsidence). A sinkhole by can be created by underlying limestone
rock dissolving and creating a void in which the soils, sediments and
rock collapses into.
Sinkhole Loss - refers to the structure damage buildings as a
result of sinkhole activity. Click here for photos of a
complete catastrophic loss.
Sinkhole activity - refers to the process of the shifting of
soil, sediment and or rock into subterranean voids created by the
dissolution of limestone or similar rock.
